“Hygge” - pronounced hyoo-guh - is a Danish word that loosely translates to “coziness” or “comfort,” and it’s often used to describe a vibe or feeling that you’d get from snuggling indoors on a cold day. Since the word entered the American lexicon, hygge has become a full-blown, Instagram-worthy lifestyle filled with warm blankets and glowing and scented candles.

Simplicity and modesty are the main components of hygge. This is a simple and leisurely life, filled with happiness and comfort. Hygge is the ability to appreciate the simple pleasures of life. Hygge is not associated only with lighting but also with smell, touch, taste, sounds and small details.
