Aroma candles used properly can not only create a cozy atmosphere in the house but also affect the emotional state of a human. You probably experienced an old pleasant or unpleasant memory triggered by a familiar odor you'll appreciate the power of the sense of smell and its relationship to memory and emotion. An odor stimulates chemoreceptors in the nose which pass these sensations on to the brain through electrical impulses. The brain then interprets the received signals translating them into specific odors and thus helping us to identify and subsequently recognize certain smells.
It can be quite difficult to draw a clear line between aromatherapy and smell psychology. Aromatherapy is one of the methods of alternative medicine, which uses essential oils obtained mainly from plants. The main task of aromatherapy is to relax the body and relieve pain symptoms. While smell psychology includes the basic principles of aromatherapy and psychology, which together allow you to achieve a quick and desired result. And the main task of the smell psychology is to determine the psychological and somatic state of a person with the help of natural essential oils.
Any essential oil has its own unique composition and unique therapeutic properties that are difficult to reproduce in the laboratory.
The impact of essential oils on a person occurs at three levels: psycho-emotional, therapeutic and molecular.
For example, a wonderful sweet orange essential oil stimulates the protective functions of the physical body, prevents gaining weight (which is why it is often used in anti-cellulite products), relieves eye strain, has a mild choleretic agent effect, and is antipyretic. It would seem that it is a wonderful oil with a delightful smell, but there are people who cannot stand the smell of orange or are completely indifferent to it. And why is that? The fact is that on the psycho-emotional plane, the orange is responsible for the balance between emotions and lack of self-control.
If a person has this balance, then s/he will be indifferent to this smell, but if there is an imbalance towards negative emotions, then this smell will seem irritating; if there is a lack of self-confidence, then the scent of sweet orange will seem to be the only smell you can’t get over with. This situation occurs with almost all essential oils and fragrances. Properly and individually selected essential oils help restore a person at all three levels mentioned above.
In the cold season, it is better to use aroma candles that have a mild fruity, citrusy, resinous or spicy aroma that will fill your home with warmth and tranquility: orange, mandarin, bergamot, cypress, pine, spruce, cinnamon, cloves, juniper, fir, eucalyptus. In addition, these scents are natural antiseptics that increase immunity and have a beneficial effect on the entire body in the fall-winter period. It is preferable to use these scents in mixtures. For example, a mixture of lemon, cypress and fir is an excellent means of preventing SARS.
It is difficult to draw a clear line between feminine and masculine scents. All floral fragrances are considered feminine: rose, chamomile, violet, jasmine, petitgrain (orange tree flowers), neroli. Whereas, all spicy, woody, herbaceous ones are classified as masculine: ylang-ylang, celery, bay, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cedar, tea tree. However, aromatherapy isn’t practiced with one scent only. That's why women's fragrances may contain cedarwood, while masculine fragrances may contain chamomile. The important thing here is to follow the rules of compatibility of oils.
Scented candles have been used in the aromatization of any premises for thousands of years. It is believed that aromatic candles first appeared in the Ancient East - priests and priestesses used these candles for various rituals. Later candles began to be used in everyday life. Scented candles are indispensable for relaxation and meditation. And if the composition of aromatic candles includes natural ingredients: essential oils, wax, then such candles can replace aroma lamps and even cold inhalations. Aromatic candles purify the air relieve fatigue, fill your home with fragrance and positive energy.
When choosing scented candles, you must first pay attention to what the base of the candle consists of. The safest and highest quality candles are those made from natural beeswax and soy wax. Candles on a natural basis can be used every day for a long time.
The second thing you should pay attention to is what the candle wick is made of. In high-quality aroma candles, the wick is also made from natural ingredients: cotton, hemp, etc.
