Burning Candles
I am doing a science project on candle wax. I would like to ask you a few question, which candle wax will burn longer with the same wick and the same sized candle itself, paraffin or beeswax? I would also like to know how long they would both burn if they were 12".
Our 7412 formal dinner candle, which is made of paraffin wax burns for about 12 hours. Our XB121PW beeswax candle burns for about 16 hours. Both of these candles are 7/8" diameter, 12" tall, and weigh .2 lb. There are several factors to take into consideration when comparing our burn times. The beeswax candle has plain flat ends and burns in a special assembly called a pusher, which eliminates dripping and allows for complete consumption of the wax. The formal candle has specially designed ends. The top has a tapered tip, which allows the candle to begin burning more easily, the first inch of this candle burns faster than the first inch of the beeswax candle. The bottom of the formal candle is also tapered, and molded with special ridges which allow it to fit snugly into a candle holder, as such the last inch of the formal candle is not burned. Without the specialized ends of the formal candle it could burn up to 4 hours longer, which would make it burn just as long as the beeswax candle.
