Sticky FAQs
Can I make a candle from raw beeswax that was given to me by some friends who are beekeepers ?
A candle may be made from raw beeswax. Whether it burns well or not is dependent upon the quality and type of the beeswax being used. There are two qualities of wax that come from the beehive. One is the comb wax that makes up the main body of the honeycomb. The other is the capping wax which the bees use to seal the ends of the cells in the combs. Generally the beekeeper will cut away the capping wax in order to harvest the honey. After the honey has been drained from the combs they will be placed back into the hive and re-used a few times. After a while the comb wax can get really dirty and old, and the beekeeper will no longer be able to use it. This comb wax does not work well for candles, no matter how much filtering it goes through. The capping wax however remains somewhat clean, and after proper filtering makes excellent candles.
