Sticky FAQs
I have a question about adding scent to candles. I am big into aromatherapy and I want to scent my candles using essential oils. The problem is that the scent of the oil seems to evaporate out of the candle within a few hours after making it, even if I don't light it. I want my candles to keep their scent and release it while burning (obviously). I was wondering if there is anything that I could add to my essential oil to keep it in the candle so that it will smell while the candle is burning. I would appreciate any tips or references that you could give me reference to making candles using essential oil.
This is a very common problem. Many candle makers wish to use essential oils to scent their candles. Unfortunately, essential oils are too thick and heavy to use in wax to make candles. They do not blend, and tend to separate from the wax, causing them to sweat out of the candle, or puddle up in the wax pool causing the wick to choke out. Most people who work with essential oils have told us that they need to use a "Cutter" to blend with the essential oils for candle making. But we have found that these "cut" oils still do not make the best possible candles. We recommend using only scents designed specifically for use in candles.
